Bioprotect hand purifier provides long lasting protection against the transfer of germs and bacteria. The patented Bioprotect Hand Purifier forms a protective barrier on the skin that remains effective for upto 6 hours without reapplication.
How does The BioProtect chemical work?
The active ingredient in BioProtect forms a colourless, odourless, positively charged polymer that chemically bonds to the treated surface. You could think of it as a layer of electrically charged words. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the quaternary amine sword punctures the cell membrane and the electrical charge shocks the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial does not lose strength and the sword is ready for the next cell to contact it.
Note that in order for BioProtect to continue its effectiveness, normal cleaning of treated surfaces is necessary with just a microfiber cloth and water. Dirt build up, paint, dead microbes, etc. will cover the treatment prohibiting it from killing microorganisms.
Is Germ guard just another QUAT compound?
Germgurad is an organosilane, but part of the molecule is a quaternary amine. Unlike traditional quats, which have a very short effectiveness and a limited kill spectrum, BioProtect is easier to use, provides long-term protection and controls a very broad spectrum of microorganisms (including Gram (-) bacteria).
How does BioProtect bond to a surface?
Silanes are extremely efficient bonding agents that can be coupled to other molecules and then used to permanently bond those molecules to a target surface. This process modifies surface properties of building materials and transforms them to a material that will not support microbial growth.
How long does the treatment last?
Since the cured antimicrobial is non-volatile, insoluble, and non-leaching, the treatment should last for the life of most treated surfaces. The life of a treated surface depends on a number of factors, not the least of which is surface preparation. If you treat a dirty or unstable surface, when the dirt comes off or the surface is disturbed, the effectiveness of the antimicrobial will decrease. Painting or covering a treated surface will prevent direct contact with microbes and effectiveness will be lost. Abrasive or caustic (pH>10.5) cleaners will also shorten the effective life. In our experience, our home office applicators have seen effectiveness for three years or more. We recommend re-treatment every 6 months on highly touched and abraded surfaces to ensure a piece of mind.
Is there regrowth after treatment?
The BioProtect treatment program, because of its unique chemistry, provides long-term protection against regrowth and future contamination on treated surfaces. Porous surfaces that are contaminated below the surface will occasionally experience some growth that breaks through a treated surface.
